Reading Updates & Impending Launch!
The Snowy Day is probably the most checked out book in United States history, and I never knew! You can see this copy at the @nypl #books #childrens...Show more
Tomorrow should be the day Reading Fools gets formally launched, which in this case just means I'll post about it on my socials. While it would be great to see thousands of eager book nerds flock to sign up, I'd settle for one or two. In the meantime, a few fun updates:
I visited the New York Public Library's Polosnky Treasures exhibition last week and learned about The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats, a 1962 children's picture book which is the most checked out book ever from the NYPL. My linked video on it is doing pretty well views-wise, which always makes it easier to endure the horrors for another day or two.
I read and discussed The Edge of Sadness, a forgotten Pulitzer Prizer winner from the early 1960's with the wonderful Panic Kyle over on TikTok. It's the story of an Irish-American priest and recovering alcoholic, who finds himself entangled with a sprawling and complicated family. Highly recommend.
If you're already here, I'm going to assume you're familiar enough with my work on other platforms to know what a nut I am about banned books. I've decided beyond just whining about the injustice of it all, I'm going to spend more time reading and sharing about specific titles, hopefully to demonstrate that there's nothing here to fear. I started with Maia Kobabe's Gender Queer, which is one of the most banned books in the country. Video coming soon.
I've been continuing my audiobook listens of the Heated Rivalry books, including its direct sequel The Long Game and just recently the first actual book in the series, Game Changer. I'm neither a big audiobook nor a big romance reader, but these have been fun, and if you're a fan of the series, I'd suggest giving them a try.
